TIGNES LES BRÉVIÈRES – Our Village
Description
Les Brévières is the prettiest, oldest and we think the most desirable village in which to stay in the Tignes ski area. Unlike the others, it is relatively unspoilt, with many of the buildings being old, original and of traditional alpine design. The church, on the main street and a stones throw away from our chalet, dates back to the 13th century. The old bell chimes on the hour, during the day. The small roads and ally ways, many dating back to before the days of Alpine skiing add to the rustic charm. Chalet Colettine was originally a farm house and has been beautifully converted into a luxury chalet whilst retaining its original character.
Where is it
Les Brévières is situated at the foot of the small mountain road that winds up to the top of the mountain in summer and the village runs parallel to the river Isere. The road is permanently closed in winter, due to snow and is indeed a blue ski run down into the village in winter.
Snowsure Village
The ski slopes in Tignes les Brévières all face north, ensuring good skiing here until long after many resorts have closed in spring. Our first snow normally arrives in November allowing a good ski base to be built up for December skiing. There are fixed snow cannons down the slopes to the village, which supplement the natural snow if necessary.
Lifts and Pistes
There are 3 ski lifts from the village, all within a minute of Chalet Colettine. One lift is primarily for the nursery slope, there is a four man chair and also a bubble lift. The latter two ensure that the village is well connected to the whole of the Tignes and Val d’Isere ski areas. As well as the nursery area, there is a blue and a red run back to the village plus the Sachette, a black run, considered by many to be the toughest black in the region. The slopes back to the village are wooded, a great benefit in poor light or blizzard conditions.
Lift Passes, Ski Schools, Ski/Board hire
The STGM who administer the ski slopes, have a ticket office adjacent to the lifts. The ESF have an office just across the road from Chalet Colettine where ski/board lessons can be arranged. There are two equipment hire shops in the centre of the village and we have been able to arrange significant discounts with them for our guests.
Car Parking
There are two large car parks in the village both within easy walking distance of the chalet.
Post Office, Tourist Information, Cash Machines
There is a post office which doubles as a tourist information office just across the road from the chalet and adjacent to the ESF office is a cash machine.
Restaurants, Bars and Shops
There are 5 restaurants in the village, all of which serve French cuisine at lunchtime and four of them in the evening. Three of the restaurants are at the foot of the slopes, which is ideal for lunch, or a beer or vin chaud on the way home. Five bars, three French, one English and one Dutch cater for all tastes from basic to elegant! There are no clubs but the last bar closes at 1am. Shops include ski clothing and a mini supermarket.
